In April 2019, EnergySolutions announced it had signed an agreement with Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) to decommission the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Generating Station. The 484 megawatt power plant operated for forty-three years and officially shut down October 24, 2016. The plant is located on 660 acres between Fort Calhoun and Blair, Nebraska adjacent to the Missouri River.
Decommissioning commenced immediately following the announcement with two large components already removed from the facility, transported and safely disposed at the EnergySolutions Clive Disposal Facility located in Utah’s West Desert.
